Arbovirus Transmission Biology
TEAM ARBO team takes advantage of the unique research environment offered by the CDC Southeastern Center of Excellence in Vector Borne Diseases (SEVBD) program to unify epidemiology, entomology, and molecular biology approaches to address pressing and critical state-wide public health needs. They prioritize a supportive and collaborative work culture and strive for excellence in science communication as well as research. TEAM ARBO consists of 4 PhD students, one undergraduate student and 2 postdoctoral associates. One postdoc and PhD student forms a bridge with TEAM MALARIA as well. Together, the team studies the epidemiology and molecular biology of arthropod-borne viruses, primarily focusing on Zika and dengue. Future work will expand to Chikungunya virus and Rift Valley Fever Virus.
